Coffee with the Counselors

    Parents of Juniors and Seniors are invited to an informative evening Monday, April 26, at 6:00 PM. Jon Teichman, Admission Counselor at NMU will be at Superior Central with a presentation titled "Get Set for College." He will talk to the parents of students admitted to NMU for the fall. Mrs. Peffers will be available to present to parents of Juniors all the options available next year and an overview of the senior year. Refreshments will be served. Please join us.

Teacher professional development on April 27

    On Tuesday, April 27, there is a scheduled half-day of teacher professional development from 7:50 AM to 10:50 AM. The student day will begin at 11:00 AM.

    The next regularly scheduled school board meeting is Monday, April 19, 2010 in the school library at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

    Adult prom is April 16. Tickets are available in the high school office and at the Chatham Credit Union for $30 per person. Price includes the cost of dinner.

Our Cougars have won the quarter finals!

    The varsity boys basketball team continues on in the quest for the Class D championship. They defeated a very good Cedarville team, and are now moving on to play in the semi-finals on Thurday, March 25, at 7:50 PM at MSU in East Lansing.

    Because of the team's success, there will be no school on Thursday, March 25, and Friday, March 26 to enable students and fans to attend the game(s). If (when) they win, they will advance to the State Finals which will be played on Saturday, March 27 at 10 AM.

Boys Basketball Class D Playoffs ticket information

    There are two games remaining in the run to the State Class D Championship. The semi-final game is scheduled for 7:50 PM on Thursday, March 25 at the Breslin Center on the Michigan State University campus. Our opponent is the Cardinal Mooney Cardinals from Marine City.

    The championship game is scheduled for 10 AM on Saturday, March 27, also at the Breslin Center.

    Thursday’s Game

    For those of you that have a ticket voucher for Thursday’s game, Teri Lintula will be at the entrance to the Jenison Field House on Michigan State University’s campus from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM to exchange your voucher for a game ticket. This ticket will get you into the special section reserved for Superior Central School, and if you come early, will also get you into the 6:00 PM game. (Go to the Breslin Center website for directions to the Breslin Center).

    If you do not have a ticket voucher for Thursday’s game, you can still purchase a general admission ticket at the door for $8.00; however, you will not be able to sit in the Superior Central School section.

    Saturday’s Game

    If you are attending the Thursday game, we are assuming you are staying for the Saturday game. If you do not plan to stay for the Saturday game, please contact Teri via e-mail (tlintula@maresa.org) or leave a message for Teri at 906.439.5531 extension 223 by 8:30 AM on Friday morning; otherwise, she will have a ticket for you.

    If you do not have a voucher or ticket for Thursday’s game, and you want to attend the Saturday game, contact Teri Lintula via e-mail (tlintula@maresa.org) or leave a message for Teri at 906.439.5531 extension 223 by 8:30 AM on Friday morning.

Varsity boys basketball continues to win

    The varsity boys basketball team continues on to the Class D quarterfinals. They defeated a tough team from Bark River-Harris, and are now moving on to the next opponent.

    The next game will be in Escanaba against Cederville on Tuesday, March 23. The game will be at the Escanaba high school, and game time is 7:00 PM. Cost for the game is $6.00. You can purchase tickets for the game at the high school office.

    There will be a fan bus leaving from the school at 5:15 PM. Cost for the bus ride and the game ticket is $8.00, which can be paid at the high school office. Please note that students must have a permission slip signed and turned in before they can ride the bus.

    Let's get a crowd together, and raise the noise level in Escanaba!

    Navy Informational Talk

    MME/ACT Pre Test Activities for Juniors

      Friday, February 26 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the library
      This session provides details and expectations for the testing. All information on answer forms will be filled out (except the test portion).
      Please let Mrs. Peffers know if you cannot attend.

Middle and high school teams place in Science Olympiad competition

    On Saturday, February 13, the middle school and high school teams both placed second in the annual regional Science Olympiad competition. Both teams are eligible to compete in the State competition in May. Congratulations to all team members on your fine wins!

Mid-winter break

    Mid-winter break will begin at 3:22 p.m. on February 12, and will continue through February 21. Classes will resume at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 22, after the morning teacher professional development.

Teacher professional development on January 25

    On January 25, there is a scheduled half-day of teacher professional development from 7:50 AM to 10:50 AM. The student day will begin at 11:00 AM.

Financial Aid Night, February 3

    On February 3, Seniors and their parents are invited to attend an informational meeting with a representative from Northern Michigan University's Financial Aid Department. The meeting will be in the library at 6:30 PM.

    Mrs. Peffers has the FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) worksheet, or it can be found online at www.fsapubs.org. It would be helpful to start filling out the worksheet to discover questions for the representative. There is also a help session called Goal Sunday to file the FAFSA at NMU on February 14 from 1 PM to 4 PM. All the details will be discussed at the meeting.

DeTour Home Basketball times for January 9

    Both the boys and girls JV and varsity teams will play this Saturday at home against DeTour. The schedule and gym location is:

    1:00 PM -- JV boys will play in the Elementary gym. 1:00 PM -- JV girls will play in the High School gym.

    20 minutes after the JV girls game ends, the varsity girls will play in the high school gym.

    20 minutes after the varsity girls game ends, the varsity boys will play in the high school gym.

The BookFair will be open before AND after both the Elementary program tonight and the Christmas concert tomorrow night. Stop in and check out the selection of reading materials that are available.

The annual middle school / high school Holiday Band and Choral Concert scheduled for December 10 has been rescheduled to December 16 at 7:00 PM in the high school gym. We will have baskets in the gym for donations of food items and non-perishables for our area's needy.

The Class of 2010 FRUIT SALE fruit arrives tomorrow, Tuesday, December 8. Fruit pick up will begin after 1 pm in the utility room across the hall from the library.

Santa's Superior Shop

It's Christmas time again! Santa's Superior Shop will open on Monday, December 7 during school hours. The shop will be closed at the end of the day on Thursday, December 10. Shop early, shop often!

News for Seniors (Class of 2010)

College applications sent now may qualify you for scholarship money. Do not wait! You do not need to know a major or for sure that you will attend. Just get the applications in and final decisions can be made later. Early applications are in line for the school scholarship money. Don't miss out.

Anyone with parents, grandparents or great grandparents that are honorably discharged veterans are eligible for several scholarships.

Parent/Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 12

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 12th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Teachers will be located in their classrooms. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM.

No School On Friday, November 13

There are no classes scheduled on Friday, November 13. Normal schedules will resume on Monday, November 16.

Special Birthday for "Teacher Lynda" on November 13

"Teacher Lynda" (Mrs. Wiklanski) in Elementary is celebrating a special birthday (it ends in a "0") on Friday, November 13 . Stop by and wish her a Happy Birthday!.

School closed October 30 through November 1

The school and offices are closed Friday, October 30 due to the H1N1 flu virus. Students will return on a normal schedule on Monday, November 2.

The JV volleyball team will still play as scheduled tonight (October 29).

The Halloween party scheduled for October 30 in the school is cancelled.

The Halloween party sponsored by the Junior class on Saturday, October 31 is cancelled.

All school-related activites on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday are cancelled.

Time change this weekend

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday morning. The time change occurs at 2 AM on Sunday morning.

The school and offices are closed Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28 due to the H1N1 flu virus. Students will return on a normal schedule on Thursday, October 29.

Beginning band meeting cancelled

Due to the school closure on Tuesday and Wednesday, the beginning band meeting has been cancelled. The meeting will be rescheduled at a later date.

Check out college materials for high school students, additional information on scholarships, and other guidance office-retlated materials. The site will be updated regularly with information for all students.
